One becomes Two

“… when the bud unfolds and from the lesser the greater emerges, then One becomes Two and the greater figure, which one always was but which remained invisible, appears with the force of a revelation.”

Carl Jung

2007 ~ for violin and real-time computer processing

about One becomes Two...

The violin is transformed into a set of quivering waves that seem to constantly emerge from an interdimensional foam (and then plunge back down again).
... it’s utterly spellbinding!

Steve Antosca’s One Becomes Two is a glorious journey  through a wide collection of sonic terrain.

Steve Antosca's One becomes Two inspired by C.G. Jung's ideas of transformation, symbolized by the evolution from a single melody line to multiple voices. It is a powerful work that represents growth and evolution.

The score is interesting because it lacks barlines and staves—the notation provides guidance to rhythm and pitch despite the absence of these conventional markers.
